Global Mission, Local Impact

How Xi Xi Sigma Brings the National Essential Programs to Northern Virginia

At the Xi Xi Sigma Alumnae Chapter, our commitment to "Greater Service, Greater Progress" is fueled by action. We take the five essential programs of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and tailor them to meet the specific needs of Loudoun County, Dulles, and the surrounding communities.

Operation BigBookBag Established in 1996 by the 18th International Grand Basileus, Dr. LaRona J. Morris, this program provides essential educational support to at-risk students in shelters, hospitals, and schools.

Global Mission: To equip students with the supplies, reference materials, and technology needed to succeed academically.

Global  Evolution: Beyond school supplies, we now focus on STEM exposure, tutoring, and mentoring.

When We Serve: Chapters host programs year-round, with major supply giveaways in August and January.

Our Local Focus: Hosting biannual "Back-to-School" and mid-year supply drives and offering tutoring support to at-risk youth.

Project CRADLE Care In collaboration with The March of Dimes, this program addresses the critical crisis of Black maternal and infant health. With Black women facing significantly higher mortality rates regardless of education or income, we aim to mitigate these disparities through:

Community Outreach & Education
Legislative Advocacy
Implicit Bias Training
Support for Healthy Pregnancies

Our Local Focus: Organizing community health fairs, "Pink" breast cancer awareness walks, and mental wellness workshops designed specifically for the busy women of Northern Virginia.

Women’s Wellness Initiative (WWI) A consolidated effort addressing health issues that disproportionately impact women of color. Developed from our partnership with the UN and March of Dimes, this initiative offers year-round education and programming on:

Breast Cancer Awareness
Heart & Diabetes Health
Mental Health

Intimate & Domestic Violence Prevention

Our Local Focus: Organizing community health fairs, "Pink" breast cancer awareness walks, and mental wellness workshops designed specifically for the busy women of Northern Virginia.

Sigma Youth Symposium A unified nationwide initiative to empower youth through impactful programming. We address critical opportunities and challenges in:

STEAM & Education

Health & Wellness (Mental & Physical)

Financial Literacy & Career Planning

Social Action & Justice

Our Local Focus: Given our location in the Dulles Technology Corridor, our symposiums place a heavy emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education, alongside financial literacy and leadership development.

Safety & Confidence"Through our partnership with USA Swimming, Swim 1922 aims to strengthen swimming participation and drown prevention. By engaging Olympians and community members, we have touched nearly 20,000 lives—reducing fear and increasing water safety awareness within the African American community. We are changing attitudes and saving lives for generations to come."

Our Local Focus: Partnering with local aquatic centers to host water safety clinics and swim lessons for youth and adults, ensuring our neighbors are safe in the water.
